Every time you turn on the television you see promotions on how you can make money online is sweeping the nation. People need to have something to fall back on with the national economy being what it is today. Many civil service jobs that were sought by many for job security are not being eliminated because of budget cuts and newer technology.
Before you decide to sell online you need to decide what you feel is a good product to sell. It should be something you have in depth knowledge of and would be willing to promote with a clear conscience. The problem with salespeople today is that they don’t know their product. They probably sat in a product overview session but have not actually ever used it.
Selling books online sounds like it could be a fun business. You would need to have a good supply of books on hand, which on the average I believe most people do. Once you read a book though unless it is a classic or a how-to book, like the best gardening book which describes various plants and where to place them for best results then do you really need to keep them forever?
Finding an online book service would not be hard to do. Some of them will do all the work for you. You are just expected to enter an ISBN number. They will then list it for you and let you know when it sells. But what is the fun in that?
Building your own website and listing your books would be much more rewarding. Writing up brief descriptions of each book would give you a greater sense of satisfaction knowing that you personally contributed to the sale of the books. Of course, some are not going to need descriptions. What more would you need to write about a book titled ‘Best Golf Instruction Book‘?
Make your website something that they will want to add to their favorites list. If possible have the option to enter a chat room where they can request certain books they have been looking for. Other people in the room may be able to suggest where the book can be found. That way you could all be helping each other and your website is just the gathering spot for them to meet. Being in business is to make money but it should also be to help people. Nothing brings a person back to a place of business faster than customer satisfaction.
So you are not going to get rich quick with this way of thinking but you can make new friends and have fun in the process. And you never know networking is one of the best ways to put yourself out there for new opportunities. Plus you have just created your own business so you can write-off any expenses for tax breaks. That in it self should be worth something.
