Let’s face it; being a parent isn’t an easy task. As a matter of fact, it takes more time than a full time job because you’re on calls twenty-four, seven. Then, you ask yourself, why do work at home moms make for the happiest homemakers? We can get caught up in work while the house and relationships begin to crumble around us or we spend so much time cleaning we never find time to work on our business. And for many people, there is nothing more valuable than freedom.
I am not your fairy godmother but I can offer you some help and time management tips. Your timer (you do have one, don’t you?) can be your magic wand. Here’s how: Set your timer for 15 minutes, as you gather the troops. For some this may take getting used to, because it is much easier to get distracted when you are in your home than when you are in an office.
Reset your timer for 15 minutes. Sit and cuddle with your kids. Read a story. Have fun together. When the timer goes, stop.
Reset the timer. Altogether, sort the laundry (teaching as you go). Make a game of it. Who can sort the most clothes? Each person gets 20 seconds to tell part of an ongoing story using the piece of laundry they just picked up and then the story is continued by the next person. When sorting is done and the load is started, fold any laundry that’s sitting in baskets - waiting! When the timer goes, everyone puts laundry away till it’s done.
The best way to get started is to find something that can be done with little or no startup cost. After meal prep, kiss your kids, get them started on a fun activity and spend the next 15 minutes doing the most important next step on your home business ‘to do’ list.
If your house still needs more attention, play the airplane game again. If it’s reasonably clean, then clean the bathroom. Maintain your home and life by spending 15 minutes each day in each area: home, family and business. This will free up the time you need to devote more time with productivity to your life.
Works at home moms really do make for the happiest homemakers. Instead being exhausted and tired at the end of the day, they will invigorated and refreshed with a feeling of triumph that they have made a difference in their family and a difference in the world.
